Colorchrome traveled to Miami, Florida for the city’s annual cultural celebration and art fair: Art Basel. Checking into the posh “Nobu Eden Roc”, located right in the heart of Basel, we immediately noticed beautiful work curated by The Brant Foundation. From what we saw, the hotels and resorts in the South Beach area fully embrace Miami Art Week. From the sculptures scattered indiscriminately through the public sector of Art Basel to the satellite fairs like PULSE, UNTITLED, and Design Miami, it was clear we had a lot of ground to cover.
Our first stop:
The Miami Beach Convention
This is where the actual Basel takes place. Upon entering the convention center, we were surrounded by an international crowd of gallerists, artists, and collectors.
It was hard to believe that we were just in our Atlanta office earlier that day. Talk about a change of scenery!
Here is a recap of some of the highlights we saw while down at Miami Art Basel 2016:
Jeff Koons- Diamond (Blue)
Displayed by the world-renowned Gagosian Gallery, this stainless-steel sculpture was a show-stopping centerpiece.
Plant The Future
Located south of the design district, Wynwood has become a premier arts hub for South Florida. We stopped by the nature-inspired design firm and retailer “Plant The Future”; where Argentinian artist Paloma Teppa’s living sculptures showcase a unique perspective on floral arrangements. This eco-friendly boutique is a must-see on the Wynwood Walk.
We could go on for pages about the specifics of all the great places we visited, but in the interest of time, here are just a few other galleries we visited in the Wynwood Arts District:
A very special thanks to the Gregg Shienbaum Fine Art Gallery for providing complimentary passes to Art Miami.
In our attempt to see it all, we caught the last 30-minutes of the international curated art fair UNTITLED. An exclusive event, we have nearly turned away until one of the curators, Christophe Boutin, owner of Onestar Press in Paris, France, welcomed us as if we were dear friends.
Founded in 2012, this particular fair’s innovative approach created a diverse array of programming, performances, discussions, and events. We will definitely have to pay Christophe and UNTITLED a visit again next year!
Art Basel was a great experience and Colorchrome Atlanta is excited to continue bringing our printing and fabricating expertise to the world of fine art and display. Until next time!
